So far, so good...

With all of the fires raging through So Cal presently, miraculously, we have not really been affected all that much. At this point, the worse that has happened to us is that the local schools are all closed because of the smoke blowing over us. Just south of us, and just north of us, however, all hell is breaking loose. My parents and sister have been evacuated from their homes and have yet to be allowed back. We’re all pretty confident that nothing has happened in their areas, but there is still fear of looters and prized  fish dying after not eating for several days. We feel lucky that’s all it is and understand that it all could be much, much worse.

On a lighter note, with the local schools closed today and tomorrow, I’m working from home with the two little rug rats. Working from home with kids around is a challenge, but the kids understand that daddy needs to work and that they need to entertain themselves. They have really been good kids, but, man, do they make a MESS.

Interestingly enough, the most mess comes from the younger 20 month old baby then the five year old. Michael concentrates on one toy at a time and is entertained for longer periods of time with the toy, wheras Kailynn plays with a toy for a few minutes then moves on to the next thing. There’s a whole layer of discarded toys behind her by the end of the day.  I remember Michael doing some of the same things and have pictures of him in the midst of a rather large pile of toys, but, oh my! I guess old age dulls the memory or something, because it’s just amazing to me what a gigantic mess such a small little girl can make. Aren’t girls supposed to be prim and proper or something?

Along those lines, I have the first poopy story, so for those that fear this type of thing, please avert your eyes NOW!

The past week, Kailynn has had the LARGEST poopies! You know the type that leaks out the diaper and goes down their legs? Yeah, THAT type. I just don’t remember Michael having such large poopy diapers, but maybe that age thing has made me forget that as well. She had one the other day where poop was falling out of her diaper as she was walking and I hadn’t noticed it. Her brother, Michael, was in using the restroom and Kailynn noticed something brown on the floor and picked it up as I was watching her. She looks at it, squishes it between her fingers, and then says “Ewww” and throws it back down on the floor. I’m usually pretty slow on stuff and the first thing that went through my mind was “Wow, she learned a new word!”.   Then I looked at the brown thing on the floor and a bad feeling came across my mind…OH NO. And my wife was still at work! I guess this wonderful present from my daughter was up to me to clean up. At least this one wasn’t one that needed a bath to clean up.
