Yesterday was "Snow Day" down in a nearby town. Since Southern California is basically a desert, they MAKE snow here and let the kids play in that. It's kind of nice, because we don't have to drive in it, and we don't have to scoop it out of our front yard. However, the kids look at it wondering what in the world it is since they never get to see what frozen water looks like except what is in their own freezers. Michael had a blast, Kailynn, it seems, is still a little too young to really enjoy the snow. Michael enjoyed digging in it, having me make the snowballs for him, and he would then throw the snowball I made back at me. It took me several times doing this to learn that he really should be making his own snowballs, if the object of his agression was
going to be in my general direction. There weren't a TON of kids, which made the experience nice since it wasn't too crowded and all of the kids could enjoy themselves. Unlike the snow area in our own town, this one was not timed, so the kids could spend as much time as they wished playing in the snow. Michael probably would have played all night in the snow if we let him, but Kailynn was starting to get a little cranky and that is generally our signal that it's time to leave.
There was a nice guy there that did a really good impression of Santa. Super Mega Mom said she thinks that he was the real thing because he had such a great personality. He was handing out little toys for the kids and sitting down
and talking with the parents and the kids. And I still don't know if he was the Santa that was sponsored by the event, or if he was just a really nice guy that liked hanging out and being Santa. Or, who knows, maybe he WAS the real Santa making sure all of the little kids were being good. He did a good job of convincing US!
Michael's date night with the little girl across the street Friday night went off without a hitch. We all went to go and see 'The Bee Movie" which I think is a little too mature for 5 year old kids. They were slightly bored throughout because there wasn't enough action for them. Just too much adult "talking" throughout. There were a few segments where there was enough action to keep them entertained, but other times they just wanted to run around or go and check out the rest rooms. I think I did quite well keeping two five year olds under control. We all shared a giant bucket of popcorn, a couple of sodas, and some candy, so that kept the kids busy too. Afterwards we all went over to get ourselves icecream, so the kids had little cups of icecream with sprinkles which they ate to the last drop. Overall, not a bad first date for Michael.
