The Adventures of Super Mega Dad Blog

Author:Super Mega DadCreated:10/25/2007 10:49 PM
The Adventures of Super Mega Dad Blog will generally contain stories of the day to day life of Super Mega Dad. Super Mega Dad is told by his children that he has super powers such as super smell to detect poopy diapers from over 2 miles away, super sight to spot messes from anywhere in the county, and super intelligence to help with those difficult homework problems such as 2 - 1. Warning: This blog may contain an occasional poopy diaper story, so be warned!

The Night Before Halloween
By Super Mega Dad on10/30/2007 10:20 PM

It was the night before Halloween and all the little kids are snug in their beds dreaming of jack-o-lanterns and all of the candy that they are going to scam out of our poor unsuspecting neighbors.  We spent the evening carving jack-o-lanterns and cooking pumpkin seeds.  I haven't done either of those in years and years and years.  Michael hasn't been all that interested in carving pumpkins up to this point and so far has preferred to keep his pumpkins intact and uncut.  However, this year he decided he wanted jack-o-lanterns, so Super Mega Mom and I carved one pumpkin each while the kids cleared out the seeds.

The pumpkins actually turned out quite well.  Super Mega Mom's better then mine, but in my defense, Michael and I were going for the classic look.  Below is a snap shot of our pumpkin carving adventures.

The pumpkin seeds turned out quite interesting.  I think the last time I had anything lik ...

That just ain't right...
By Super Mega Dad on10/29/2007 8:25 PM
I need some opinions on something that is bothering me about Kailynn's daycare.  All the area schools, including Kailynn's daycare were closed last Thursday and Friday due to the poor air quality from the fires we had here in Southern California last week.  The school closing wasn't so much the problem, but how management handled the situation that bothered me.  We were charged the normal, full price for the week, which I don't really have a problem with, but the poor, underpaid staff were only paid 50% for those two days.  If the staff were paid normally for those two days, I would completely understand the reasoning behind paying for the time, but since they weren't, I think the parents should receive a 50% credit for the time the school was closed.  To me, receiving normal payments for things, then giving their staff only 50% of their normal is just not right in by book.  What about everybody else, what is your opinion on this?  Am I ...

It's Cleaning Day!
By Super Mega Dad on10/28/2007 8:30 PM

Sunday's are traditionally cleaning day here at the Super Mega house, so we got the lawn mowed, did laundry, vacuumed the floors and did the general clean up thing today.  Michael has been bugging me to put up Halloween decorations for the past couple of weeks, so I figured that I better get them done considering that Halloween is just a few days away.  Michael and I worked on getting the spider webs done on the patio, then Michael drew "spooky" pictures on the walkways using sidewalk chalk.

Michael wanted to get all of the Halloween decorations up as soon as possible to scare his little girl friend from across the street.  Not sure WHY he wants to scare her, but scare her he will.

The kids have their costumes all ready now with Michael being the blue power ranger (it is a Super Mega house, afterall!) and Kailynn is a little horsey.  Kailynn still doesn't know what the whole thing is about, but Mich ...

Bouncey Bounce Day!
By Super Mega Dad on10/27/2007 8:32 PM

Today was Michael's friend's Birthday party at a local bouncy party place.  Both kids and myself went to the very early morning party at 9 AM and really had a lot of fun.  These Bouncy places are such an excellent idea and a great value.  Generally speaking, you can have a large party of 25 or so kids for under $300 and have a couple of hours of non-stop bouncing in several large bouncies.  The best part of this whole thing is that you DON'T HAVE TO CLEAN UP.  For Michael's fifth party, we held it here at home, spent about the same amount of money, and spent all night cleaning up.  We're seriously considering doing something like this for him next year.  The kids have a ball and there's no cleaning up.  Now that he's in school, with more friends, I think this would all work out nicely.& ...

Another day...
By Super Mega Dad on10/26/2007 8:54 PM

Well, another day has come to a close here at the Super Mega Dad household and another day working from home with both little people home all day has ended.

Total mess count for the day? Actually, not too bad. We can see the floor, so that’s always a positive sign. Looking around the living room, I see a couple of piles of Mega Blocks, an empty cardboard shoe box (or stuffed animal bed, as the kids like to think of it as), an undressed dolly, dolly’s highchair, dolly’s bottles, a stuffed hamster, a couple assorted catalogs, Kailynn’s diaper bag, and a few other odds and ends here and there.

Both kids are all tucked in to bed, that means parents can watch shows that don’t have Big Bird or the Backyardigans in them. Maybe even get a little Xbox 360 in depending on who gets to it first. Me? Big p ...

Why do they do this?
By Super Mega Dad on10/26/2007 8:00 AM

What is the deal with babies undressing themselves? The past couple of days after waking up and going into Kailynn’s room, she has undressed herself to some degree. Yesterday she had successfully taken off her top, had her pants around her ankles, and had her diaper off, but was in the process of trying to put it back on. Today I went in and she had her shirt completely off. I’ve gone in to her room in the past and she’s been completely undressed and had pooped in her crib. Talk about major mess! Fortunately, there was no such present this time, but I don’t understand their fascination of undressing themselves. Maybe somebody can enlighten me on this?

Schools and daycares are closed again today in our area of So Cal because of the poor air quality from the fires, but the sky looks much better today. The air is ALMOST breathable ...

So far, so good...
By Super Mega Dad on10/25/2007 10:55 PM

With all of the fires raging through So Cal presently, miraculously, we have not really been affected all that much. At this point, the worse that has happened to us is that the local schools are all closed because of the smoke blowing over us. Just south of us, and just north of us, however, all hell is breaking loose. My parents and sister have been evacuated from their homes and have yet to be allowed back. We’re all pretty confident that nothing has happened in their areas, but there is still fear of looters and prized  fish dying after not eating for several days. We feel lucky that’s all it is and understand that it all could be much, much worse.

On a lighter note, with the local schools closed today and tomorrow, I’m working from home with the two little rug rats. Working from home with kids around is a challenge, but the kids understand that ...
