We are now officially registered for Comic Con 2009 in beautiful downtown San Diego for July 26th. I went with a buddy back in 2007, but skipped last year because I am really, really cheap. Just ask my kids.
I had a lot of fun going to my first Comic on back in 2007 and as a Comic Con virgin I had no idea what I was in store for. I've always thought of myself as a fan of some of the genres included in the annual Comic Con show, but upon actually going, I learned that I have NOTHING on some of the people that go to these things. I mean, some of these people were VERY much into their favorite character from whatever show/book/game/comic. These people lived and breathed their character. Sure, I enjoy going and seeing a Star Wars or Star Trek movie, but I don't dress up and role play as First Lieutenant Super Mega Dad. Not that there's anything wrong with that if that's your bag, baby. It's just not my thing. No, really.
Comic Con is definitely a nerd paradise. The entire convention center is just filled from end to end with every little nerd fantasy that can exist. Comic Books? Check. Video Games? Check. Anime? Check. SciFi? Check!
This year, don't ask me how, but I talked Super Mega Mommy into going with me. She never really has gotten me, or my complete and utter nerdiness, but you gotta love someone that will go to something like this just because it's something that I enjoy. And, fortunately, for me anyway, the kids seem to have gotten some of my nerdiness genes. Super Mega Michael much more so than Princess K up to this point. He LOVES Star Wars and him and I have many, many Star Wars discussions. Anything from Anakin Skywalker's personal history, to how an AT-AT works. And he loves XBox as well. To the point where him and I have very heated competitions to see who will have the highest gamer score (he's at 1980, I'm at 5800). It really makes me proud to know that he shares some of my interests, and I just hope it lasts. So, I know at least Super Michael will enjoy Comic Con, especially since he's already decided to go dressed up a his favorite character, Darth Vader (I'm prouder and prouder of him every day). I spent awhile thinking of what Princess K could go as. Maybe the normal Princess Leigh that all little girls go as, but that would be too boring, and half the woman/girls there are dressed as Princess Leigh. We asked her this evening what she would like to dress up as, and she wanted to be a "horsey". After some further thought, we decided with her current three foot stature, an Ewok might be a good decision. What do y'all think? What should Princess K go as?
So, there you have it. I'm pretty excited. Super Michael is very excited. Princess K is excited, but she has no clue what she's excited about. Super Mega Mommy, not so much, but we'll make sure she has fun anyway.
Anybody else coming down to our wonderful state for the annual comic con? Just look for us, we'll be the one with a normal size Ewok and a mini-me Darth Vader. Not nerdy AT ALL.
