Such Passion in One So Small!

14. January 2009 by Super Mega Dad 2 Comments

Today was one of the most exciting days of Princess K's short but sweet 2 year old life.

The trash truck came to preschool as part of the "neighborhood helpers" week.

For some reason, she goes nuts every time she sees one of these green beasts coming down the street.  If she hears it outside, we MUST go outside and wave at the trash man as she screams TASH TUCK, TASH TUCK!  all while I pretend to be doing yard work or watering the weeds or something.  So, it was a pretty big deal that one was coming to visit at the preschool today.

I had totally forgotten about the trash truck visit until after I picked her up, but I got an earful afterwords.  She spent a good half hour telling me everything she could remember about it.  Everything from it being green and big to parts of the trash truck moving back and forth and up and down.  She was a little disappointed that she couldn't sit inside of it, but it was still pretty exciting.

I just have never seen someone so excited about trash trucks before.  It was all pretty funny listening to her explaining about the whole adventure and all of the "And then, and then, and then".

Which reminds me, tomorrow is trash day!  We have THREE of those things come by our house on trash day.  One to pick up the weeds, one to pick up the poopy diapers, and one to pick up the boxes that the diapers come in.  Trash is SERIOUS business in these parts, I'm telling you.  I need to get Princess K busy playing with something so she doesn't hear them coming down the street.  Preferably something LOUD!

I wonder if the trash truck guys have groupies?  Lucky bastards!  Computer Programmer Nerds never have groupies.  We don't get out enough to have groupies.  Now if they came in Cheeto's bags, we'd be all set!

Today was the official Super Michael return to school day.  It was SUPPOSED to be yesterday, but we had some paperwork screw up.  Apparently I'm NOT supposed to trust the calendar the school sent us at the beginning of the year.  The one that said winter break was through the 13th.  By through the 13th, I was under the mistaken impression that it INCLUDED the 13th as part of the break, but apparently this NEW MATH they teach at school now ACTUALLY means return to school on the 13th.  It was suggested by the school office lady that I wasn't bright enough to understand this and that I should probably take a remedial new math class to understand these type of things.  They had an opening in the Kindergarten class, from what I understand, but I need a note from my mommy and daddy.

Really makes me wonder if our federal government is using this new math.   Hmmmm.

My daughter had a similar fascination with the waste collection men and their trucks (we have two: one for trash, and one who does recycling and "green bin" - basically composting stuff like food scraps and diapers).  I remember one morning my wife took her out to actually meet one of the guys as he emptied our bins: I think it was one of the happiest days of her young life.
